The School of Design (SD) is a course that teaches you core elements of effective visual design and creatively equips you to
use media as a tool in missions. The SD is a chance for you to cultivate God's character in your lives and to discover how
to design under God's inspiration. You will create basic design projects from brainstorming and concept development right
through to completed projects. You'll understand the purpose of good visual communication as the course covers print, video
and web design and you will practically execute projects using a balance between hand skills and computer skills. The course
runs for 21 weeks and includes a 12-week lecture phase and a 9-week field assignment.
The Purpose
The purpose of this course is to equip and inspire students to use their God-given abilities to communicate and demonstrate
God's heart through visual communication. Its purpose is to see individuals rise up in their potential to learn and grow in
the areas of their calling, to use media as a tool and to stand in the 'front line' of communications and then to be released
into missions. It is through understanding practical print, video and web design principles that we will be able to reach the
unreached in relevant ways and to redeem Godly values using media in the nations.
The Curriculum
Every week you'll be covering a new topic such as:
- Incarnational Design (co-creating with God)
- Visual Language of Design (Basic Design Principles)
- Typography
- Print / Layout Design
- Logo/Corporate Identity
- Cross Cultural Design
- Visual Storytelling
- Web Design The Curriculum
Outreach Phase
An integral part of the SD is the 9-week outreach following the 12-week lecture phase. Your new design skills will be put
into practice as you create projects for ministries in the overseas outreach location and apply your experience abroad into
practical real-time projects. Just imagine going on a unique media focused missions outreach to use your talents and skills
for God and create media tools for real life missions application!
